![]() All that follow are works of fiction, as documentaries would constitute a different list. I have excluded certain films and videos for reasons of clarity. While Hollywood is overrepresented, Germany, France, Japan, and the Soviet Union each have movies here as well. The first example is from the 1920s, while the most recent ones are from the past few years. I also tried to pick films from a range of times and places. On top of that, each is at least good if not marvelous to watch. Some are cultural touchstones, at least for certain population. Each should explore one of more themes along those lines.
